Here’s a simple recipe to make bagel bread at home:


Ingredients:

For the Bagels

- 4 cups all-purpose flour

- 2 teaspoons instant yeast

- 1 teaspoon salt

- 1 tablespoon sugar

- 1 ½ cups warm water (about 110°F/43°C)


For the Boiling Water

- 1 tablespoon baking soda

- 1 tablespoon sugar


Toppings (optional)

- Sesame seeds, poppy seeds, everything seasoning, etc.


Instructions:

1. Make the Dough

- In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, salt, and sugar. Gradually add warm water and mix until a dough forms.

   

- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.


2. First Rise

- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.


3. Shape the Bagels

- Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then poke a hole in the center with your finger and gently stretch it to form a ring.


4. Second Rise

- Place shaped bagels on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let them rest for about 20-30 minutes.


5. Boil the Bagels

- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

   

- In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add the baking soda and sugar. Boil each bagel for about 1 minute on each side. Remove with a slotted spoon and place back on the baking sheet.


6. Add Toppings

- If desired, sprinkle toppings on the bagels while they’re still wet from boiling.


7. Bake

- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.


8. Cool

- Let the bagels cool on a wire rack before slicing.
