Easy Dumplings Homemade Recipe

Dumplings are a versatile dish made from dough filled with various ingredients like meat, vegetables, or sweets. They can be boiled, steamed, fried, or baked and are popular in many cuisines around the world, including Chinese, Japanese, Polish, and Italian.

In Poland, pierogi are dumplings filled with potatoes, cheese, or fruit, usually boiled and then sautéed. Italian ravioli and tortellini are pasta-based dumplings that can be stuffed with various ingredients and served in sauces or broths. 


Dumplings can also serve as comfort food, bringing people together through shared recipes and traditions. They’re often a highlight during festive occasions and gatherings. Dumplings also vary significantly in preparation and presentation.

Here’s a simple recipe for making basic dumplings:


Ingredients:

Dough

- 2 cups all-purpose flour

- 1/2 cup water (plus extra as needed)

- 1/2 teaspoon salt


Filling (Pork and Vegetable)

- 1 cup ground pork (or other protein)

- 1/2 cup finely chopped cabbage

- 2 green onions, chopped

- 1 tablespoon soy sauce

- 1 teaspoon ginger, minced

- Salt and pepper to taste


Instructions:

Make the Dough

1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.


2. Gradually add water while stirring until a dough forms.


3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.


4. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.


Prepare the Filling

1. In a bowl, mix the ground pork, cabbage, green onions, soy sauce, ginger, salt, and pepper until well combined.


Assemble the Dumplings

1. Divide the dough into small pieces (about 1 inch each) and roll each piece into a thin circle (about 3 inches in diameter).


2. Place a small spoonful of filling in the center of each circle.


3. Fold the dough over the filling and pinch the edges to seal, making sure there are no air pockets.


Cook the Dumplings

Boiling

Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add dumplings and cook for about 5-7 minutes until they float and are cooked through.


Steaming

Place dumplings in a steamer basket lined with parchment paper and steam for about 10-15 minutes.


Pan-frying

Heat a little oil in a pan, place the dumplings, and cook until the bottoms are golden. Add a splash of water, cover, and steam for about 5-7 minutes.



Serving
